Welcome to our blog – a way to keep you, our customers informed and up to date with how our business is evolving and what we have to offer.

Traditionally Canvas and Shades has primarily manufactured custom made products which have included boat canopies and covers, shade sails, roller awnings, clear PVC and mesh outdoor blinds, outdoor furniture covers, trailer covers and the like.

While we still continue to manufacture some of these products, we have seen a niche in the market for other ways to integrate indoor/outdoor living that we have heard so many of our customer’s would like to have at their place.

A shade sail or an awning for use over a deck to protect from the sun is one thing but to have an outdoor room is another.

Ziptrak Blinds have been a firm favourite with our customers for many years already. Manual or motorised, both versions have been popular because they look great, suit the need to close in a veranda or porch area without compromising visibility. They’re very easy to operate, provide protection from UV rays or the elements while offering privacy if needed.

But the past year’s momentum for Canvas and Shades has lead us to tap into what we’re hearing from our customers about what they want – outdoor rooms that can be erected quickly, that are stylish, affordable, able to be utilised all year round with the option to close in or leave open. Adding value to the home and avoiding the hassle of obtaining permits from Council for any additional structure is ultimately the most ideal outcome.

There are already systems available – Louvretec and Bowranda to name a couple – but Canvas and Shades had an eye on clean, simple lines to compliment the clean, simple lines of our existing Ziptrak Blinds. Patience and a vision for just the right streamlined system came in the form of Flexiroof Shelters – made here in New Zealand. This system, together with Ziptrak Blinds make a stunning, versatile outdoor room.

Our blog will introduce the Flexiroof Shelter, Ziptrak Blinds and other products we offer in order to create the indoor/outdoor flow typical of an outdoor room that Kiwis covet and love so much when they’re at home, entertaining, relaxing and living.

We will have information available about how to maintain, clean and look after the systems we offer and answer the questions we are asked frequently by our customers about our Outdoor Rooms.

You can come and see for yourself what a Flexiroof shelter looks like when it is paired with outdoor mesh blinds (Ziptrak), the components that are used, how it is attached/fixed and the colour options that are available – at our showroom in Maritime Lane in Waipapa.

Or, you can keep reading our blog for the answers to the questions you may already have.
